PLANNING YOUR MOVE
Moving home can always be a stressful time but with a little forward planning and a helping hand from us, you will be surprised at just how easy it can be...
Up to One Month Before
- Finalise your moving date as soon as possible and book your preferred removals company for this date
- Gather packing supplies: boxes, tape, rope/string, old newspapers etc. (Don't forget that we're here to help! Click here for more information on how we can help)
- If you are moving abroad, make any necessary travel arrangements like airline, hotel, and rental car reservations.
- Sort out the contents of your garage, shed & loft
Up to Two Weeks Before
- Dismantle self assembly furniture (unless this has been booked as part of your removal service)
- Arrange to have the gas, electricity, telephone and water
meters read
- Arrange for all kitchen appliances to be professionally disconnected,
including your washing machine so that the drum is secured
- Start using all the contents of your freezer, ready for it to be emptied and de-frosted prior to the move
- Remove any fixtures and fittings you are planning to take with you
- Give the post office your new mailing address. You can also ask the post office to forward your mail to your new address.
- Remember to notify all your friends and family of your new address.
- Banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions must also be notified.
Up to Two Days Before
- Place all important documentation in a folder and separate from your household goods so you can carry these with you when you travel.
- Have TV aerials or satellite dishes taken down if they are
part of the move
- Defrost refrigerator
- Prepare plants for transit
- Pack an overnight bag that will include all of your essential toiletries and a change of clothes for your first night in your new home so you don't end up rumaging through boxes on your first night!

- Get packing! (Click here for our packing tips and advice)
